Malta SPCA donated money from hampers
The Malta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has received a donation from Red October, which raised money for the charity by selling hampers at Christmastime.
According to the Times of Malta, the SPCA intends to use the €680 (£591.42) raised to pay for medicine and food for the dogs and cats currently being looked after at its homing centre.
Cats and dogs which are brought to the animal welfare charity are inoculated, neutered and microchipped before being rehomed.
The organisation told the newspaper that it costs approximately €5 per day to look after each of the 226 dogs and cats in its care.
Fundraising is being carried out by the Malta SPCA to enable it to build a larger homing centre.
On its website, the charity also appealed for donations of blankets, hot water bottles, towels and pillows among other things to help it to continue to provide services.
