Behind the Scenes of Our Sustainable Sourcing

Sustainability isn’t just a statement we make—it’s a commitment that shapes every decision behind the scenes. From the products we choose to the partners we work with, we believe that real impact comes from looking beyond what we do as a business and focusing on the wider network we’re part of. That means working closely with suppliers who share our values and are actively making a positive difference for the planet.

We know that responsible sourcing isn’t simply about selecting high-quality products. It’s about understanding how those products are made, where they come from, and the environmental and social practices behind them. That’s why we’re proud to collaborate with suppliers like Cartwright & Butler, Gnaw Chocolate, Two Farmers Crisps, and Island Bakery—brands that are not only known for exceptional products but also for their dedication to sustainability.

Cartwright & Butler, for example, combines traditional craftsmanship with a growing focus on reducing environmental impact across their operations. From packaging improvements to more mindful sourcing of ingredients, they are continually evolving to meet higher sustainability standards. Similarly, Gnaw Chocolate has taken meaningful steps in reducing plastic use, opting for recyclable and compostable packaging wherever possible, while maintaining their commitment to ethical cocoa sourcing.

Two Farmers Crisps is another standout partner. Their approach to sustainability is both innovative and practical, producing crisps in fully compostable packaging and using renewable energy generated directly on their farm. It’s a powerful example of how businesses can rethink production processes to minimise waste and emissions. Island Bakery also shares this forward-thinking mindset, baking their products using renewable energy and prioritising organic, responsibly sourced ingredients that support biodiversity and soil health.

Working with suppliers like these means that our impact extends far beyond our own operations. It reinforces the idea that sustainability is a collective effort. It’s not just about what we do—it’s about ensuring that every link in our supply chain is aligned with making meaningful environmental progress.

Of course, our responsibility doesn’t stop at sourcing. Internally, we are committed to continuously improving our own environmental performance. Each year, we undergo accreditation with GreenMark, a recognised environmental certification that measures and validates our sustainability efforts. This annual process holds us accountable and ensures that we’re not only setting goals but actively achieving them.

Our sustainability programme goes beyond simply reducing and offsetting our carbon footprint—although that remains a key focus. We are constantly reviewing how we operate, from energy use and packaging to logistics and waste management, to find ways to reduce our impact. But we also believe that sustainability includes social responsibility, and that’s where our work within the community becomes just as important.

One of the ways we’re addressing this is through our partnership with Too Good To Go. Food waste is a major global issue, and by working with this platform, we’re able to ensure that perfectly good products don’t go to waste. Instead, they’re offered to customers at a significantly reduced price, making them more accessible while also reducing our environmental footprint. It’s a simple but effective way to make a tangible difference—benefiting both the planet and the people we serve.

In addition to tackling food waste, we are proud to support both local and national charities. Whether through product donations, fundraising initiatives, or ongoing partnerships, we aim to give back to the communities that support us. Sustainability, in our view, isn’t just about environmental impact—it’s about creating a positive and lasting contribution to society as a whole.

Our commitment also extends globally through our involvement in tree planting programmes. These initiatives span diverse regions, from the unique ecosystems of Madagascar to reforestation efforts in the Scottish forests. By supporting these programmes, we’re helping to restore natural habitats, capture carbon, and contribute to long-term environmental resilience. It’s a reminder that the choices we make locally can have a far-reaching global impact.

Behind every product we offer is a network of people, practices, and principles that reflect a shared commitment to doing better. Sustainability isn’t a one-time achievement—it’s an ongoing journey of learning, improving, and collaborating. We’re continually seeking new ways to reduce our footprint, support our communities, and work with partners who are just as passionate about protecting the planet.

As we move forward, we remain focused on transparency and progress. By sharing more about what happens behind the scenes, we hope to highlight the importance of responsible sourcing and inspire others to consider the wider impact of the products they choose.

Because in the end, sustainability isn’t just about individual actions—it’s about collective change. And together, with our suppliers, partners, and community, we’re working towards a more sustainable future.
